MooseFS 4.59.2: Chunk Testing Fix
We’ve just released MooseFS 4.59.2 – a focused maintenance update that restores correct behaviour of the Chunkserver’s background chunk testing mechanism.
Background Chunk Testing Fixed
Background chunk testing is an important data integrity feature: the Chunkserver periodically scans stored chunks to detect any corruption before it becomes a problem. In the previous release, a bug prevented this testing from being triggered as expected, meaning verification scans were silently skipped. Administrators relying on background testing for ongoing data health monitoring would not have received the protection they expected.
This issue was reported by a member of the MooseFS Community. The fix restores correct scheduling and execution of background tests, ensuring chunks are verified according to the configured policy.
Upgrade Recommendation
We recommend upgrading to MooseFS 4.59.2 for all users who rely on background chunk testing for data integrity monitoring. Since the bug caused scans to be silently skipped, upgrading ensures that protection is actually in place.
